Delicious Oats Chin Chin Recipe
Chin-chin – is a fried dough snack which is common to parts of West Africa.
Traditional chin-chin recipes make use of all-purpose flour, but we have made ours using the ScotMaple Oat Flour which we found to be absolutely delicious, with a natural ‘earthy’ flavour.

** Note that you can also use a 50:50 ratio of all-purpose flour and oat flour if you prefer.

Ingredients
- 2 cups ScotMaple oats flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup milk
Directions
- Place the flour, sugar, baking powder and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl and combine all the ingredients.
- Add the oil and a little bit of the milk and mix with a wooden spoon. Start to add the milk a little at a time until you have a firm dough. (Make sure it doesn’t get sticky)
- Knead the dough for a couple of minutes then wrap it in some cling film and refrigerate for 20-30 mins.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out until it is about 1 cm thick
- Cut the dough into strips and then little squares.
- Place the squares on a baking tray lined with grease-proof paper.
- Bake in a preheated oven, 200 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes until golden brown.
- You may wish to turn them over half-way through to get a more even color
